Yet surrounded by a modern urban Beijing. The greater juxtaposition was not the contrast of architecture or infrastructure, but the technology that has evolved to support the Chinese way of life. What I observed was a people who want to maximize enjoyment of life despite the unavoidable societal limitations placed upon them.

It's inevitable. Each one of us faces limitations. It's what we hold onto and where we put our hope in those moments that propel us into the future. And what we learn from break through, or working around those limitations that shape us.

Here's one of my favorite images from Beijing. In the distance you can see the Forbidden City. However, it's the uniqueness of the apartments in the foreground that intrigue me. I wonder about all the stories behind those apartments, those buildings. What limitations do they face, those of their ancestors? How have they broken through their limitations?
